Fighting Addiction Through Education
The annual WHS Alumni party was held on Saturday, November 4th, at the VFW Hall in Walpole. The theme for raising funds this year was “FATE”, Fighting Addiction Through Education. The event also hosted the 45th class reunion for the class of 1972.
The event was a “packed house” and included live music, raffles and a buffet catered by Tastefully Done. Four bands played, The Infinity Trio, the Wrentham Barn Blues Band, Myron Zajac Band, and WIKI 3, providing plenty of dance music and memories.
The band Infinity Trio opened the evening. Joey Eldracher, a 2013 graduate from Norfolk, played lead guitar and sang. He was backed by Scott Bowers on bass guitar, and Robert Keating (WHS 1973) on drums. Joey began the set with acoustic numbers and then was joined by the other band members, and guest saxophonist Ken Gable, Director of the WHS Music Department.
The Wrentham Barn Blues Band included Keating on drums, Al Mullen (1973) on guitar, Jimi Coyne (1973) on guitar, Jeff Smith (1977) on bass guitar, John Anastasi from Foxborough on harmonica, Gordy Mullen (1971) on vocals and June Wilson Burke (1972) on keyboard and vocals. Jim Brady (1972) on guitar and vocals, as well as Gable, played guests spots.
Returning to the party this year was guitarist Myron Zajac (1970). Myron is remembered from Junior High School when he played in the band Lost Generation, and from high school when he played in Back Street Journal. Accompanying Myron were Smith on bass, Joe Donnelly on drums (1975) and Larry Boyd from Milford on guitar.
The evening concluded with WIKI 3, a band that is very popular in the Walpole and Boston area music scene. Dave Cournoyer (1975) on guitar and vocals, Donnelly and Wolf Ganandes from Framingham on bass guitar have been playing together professionally for many years. New to the party this year was guest player Cliff Goodwin, a guitarist from Walpole.
Michael Monte from ACP Productions performed the sound engineering and Gerry Earabino of Silver-E-Studio recorded the bands. A music CD from last year’s party was available at the party. Anyone wishing to have the CD from last year’s party featuring the bands above may contact June Wilson Burke at JuneBurke07@gmail.com. There is a suggested donation of $10 per CD which directly supports the FATE project.
Through funds raised for admission, raffle prizes donated by local business and sponsorships from local businesses and individual sponsors, the WHS Alumni Association will be bringing the Chris Herren Story to Walpole High School in the Spring. Herren is a former, legendary NBA player who now travels the country providing motivational speaking about the opioid and substance abuse crisis.
The mission of the Walpole High School Alumni Association, Inc., is to enable its members to work together for the good of the graduates and students of Walpole High School. The Association is dedicated to ensuring that current and future students of Walpole High School enjoy the same opportunities and experiences graduates enjoyed, instilling a sense of pride in being a graduate of Walpole High School and acting as a network among its alumni.
To achieve these goals, the Association was created to, among other endeavors, develop mentoring, enrichment, enhancement, speaker and education programs; provide service projects; help to coordinate reunions; and to engage in fundraising activities for identified needs.
Our thanks to everyone for making this party another huge success!
